SeaSpark reimagines glitter in a way that is safe for both people and planet. We develop 100% biodegradable, non-toxic glitter and shimmering materials using seaweed and other renewable ingredients.

Glitter is a symbol of joy, beauty, and self-expression, in celebrations, cosmetics, events, and fashion. Unfortunately, thanks to conventional glitter, millions of microplastic particles are currently polluting our planet, together with the harmful dyes and metals that is made with. SeaSpark creates glitter that is beautiful, joyful, and disappears when we no longer need it.

SeaSpark’s loose glitter is a non-toxic, single-use glitter designed for safe and joyful creativity. Perfect for arts and crafts, festive decorations, and DIY projects. Our glitter is mixable and versatile, ideal for use in paints, cosmetics, soaps, and a wide range of other products.


SeaSpark’s shimmering foil is a dazzling, biodegradable alternative to traditional plastic-based confetti and decorative sheets. Made from biobased materials and coloured with natural dyes or structural colour techniques, it offers a safe and sustainable way to add sparkle to celebrations, packaging, and creative projects.

SeaSpark's team consists of Xu Ben Zhang, who brings experience and knowledge of seaweed and sustainability, science, and impact-driven innovation; Poorva Shrivastava, a skilled biotechnologist with a proven track record of developing new biomaterials and a strong passion for biomimicry, and has extensive experience working with algae and funghi; And Karlijn Besse founder of Other Spheres, a research and design studio exploring sustainable and speculative design practice and founder of SeaSpark.
